CONTACT AN INSTITUTIONMy experience with post-secondary education at BCIT has been an overwhelmingly positive one . In my first year composing of 16 courses I have earned a Diploma of Technology in Business Management graduating with Distinction. For my second year I am participating in the international exchange program to HTW Berlin in order to complete my Bachelor of Business Administration. I am very excited about my year abroad and the valuable experience I will gain learning a new language while living in a different culture. After I complete my BBA I am not completely sure if I want to continue my education of which career path I will choose. However I am confident my education will assist me in whichever path I choose and will be an invaluable experience for the rest of my life.
I cannot express properly how grateful I am for this program . It has helped me leverage the skills and experience that I have gained from the military, into an education and subsequent civilian career. Our troops have sacrificed a great deal for their country and part of this sacrifice includes their youth. One of the chief strengths of the Legion Program is the accreditation of previous military service, which in turn cuts down on the time required to get a diploma or degree. I believe that a national expansion of this program will empower more transitioning CF members to get an education and explore career options they never thought they could.
I am currently a student in the Forest and Natural Areas Management program, outside of school I am an army reservist at the rank of Corporal . BCIT is an excellent school to obtain a fulfilling and long lasting career in any field, it is for that reason I chose to study at BCIT. Being in the Canadian Armed Forces has strengthened my desire to help others and to make a difference. My plans upon graduating the Forest and Natural Areas Management program are to obtain a career in forestry protection whilst continuing to serve with the Canadian Armed Forces. My hopes in the future are to have a career that both serves my country and protect our environment.
By having this program go national, it would provide a path for veterans like me to use the skills, knowledge, and abilities learned in the forces and apply it to a civilian application . If it wasn’t for the Legion Program I am not sure if I would have gone back to school and been given this opportunity to find the career that was right for me.
I started the Business Management Advanced Placement diploma program in September 2014 and will be graduating in May 2015 . Since joining the program, I have been provided with numerous opportunities to network with industry professionals and put my skills into practice. I am grateful for the opportunities that BCIT and the Legion program has provided current and former military members, like myself.
Before deciding to go to school at BCIT I was working primarily with the reserves in both full and part time rolls . I graduated from the BBA program in December of 2014. Since then I've continued to work with the reserves in a part time roll and am currently searching for employment in the private sector.
BCIT's reputation precedes itself . So when my colleagues and upper-management learn about my education and background, there is trust and confidence in my department that I can do my job and more. My job in HR - Recruiting doesn't stop here though, once I graduate from the Degree program, I plan on minoring in Psychology and Commission from Ranks (CFR) to become a Personnel Selections Officer in the Army.
